|
KODIANG, Feb 6 (Bernama) -- Tan Sri Muhyiddin Mohd Yassin is convinced that Kota Siputeh will not be excluded from the mainstream of development because the residents there still give priority to solidarity. The Deputy Prime Minister said he was proud of the strong solidarity spirit shown by the residents especially in the Kota Siputeh state constituency in various activities. Speaking at a gathering of the leader with the people of Kedah in Kota Siputeh, near here today, he said development would certainly be enjoyed by the people in areas which placed emphasis on solidarity. He said the Barisan Nasional (BN) government constantly organised programmes aimed at detecting the problems of the community with the leaders at the national level going down on the ground. These included the 'Juara Rakyat' programme which saw more than 20,000 Kota Siputeh residents taking part in various activities. Kota Siputeh has now drawn the attention of the country while waiting for the decision of the Court of Appeal whether the Jerlun Umno division head, Datuk Abu Hassan Sarip would remain as the State Assemblyman for Kota Siputeh or a by-election would be held. Muhyiddin, who is also the Umno deputy president, said the government was also thinking of the problems faced by the rural community as well as the urban dwellers. At the function, Muhyiddin gave away aid to the poor in the Kota Siputeh constituency. Also present was the Member of Parliament for Jerlun, Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir and Abu Hassan. The Deputy Prime Minister and his entourage later returned to the federal capital at about 7 pm. -- BERNAM
